This is an unusual release for Ted Nash, at least unusual to me. I know of his work as a fine saxophonist, but mostly in big bands, where solos are generally shorter and less frequent. Here, in the company of trumpeters Wynton Marsalis and Marcus Printup, pianist Frank Kimbrough, bassist Ben Allison and drummer Matt Wilson, Nash stretches out as soloist and composer. "Still Evolved" is a thoroughly interesting and stimulating effort and Ted Nash is indeed still evolving.
