The great drummer Roy Haynes, now in his mid 70's, in the company of three youngsters, Martin Bejerano on piano, Marcus Strickland on tenor & soprano saxophones and bass clarinet, and John Sullivan on bass. The indomitable Mr Haynes is right in the pocket. I can almost hear the history of jazz drumming in his playing. His musical references run from the influences of Charlie Parker, to Thelonious Monk, to John Coltrane, to Pat Metheny and the here & now, much of it evident in his playing here. And he is still one of the coolest dressers on earth.
