Q&A
Jazz with Bob Parlocha

Q. What are your favorite albums?
A. In no particular order:
Giant Steps
-- John Coltrane
On the French Riviera -- Dizzy Gillespie
Milestones -- Miles Davis
Way Out West -- Sonny Rollins
Focus -- Stan Getz
John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman -- John Coltrane/Johnny Hartman
Live at the Village Vanguard -- Gerry Mulligan
Basie One More Time -- Count Basie
Wonderful Life -- Irene Kral
Form & Fantasy
-- Kenny Werner
Mingus Ah Um -- Charles Mingus
Four & More -- Miles Davis
A Love Supreme -- John Coltrane

Q. How many hours do you work per week?
A. 30 hours per week.

Q. Are you live?
A. No. I record the show in California on compact ORB disks and they are sent to WFMT in Chicago. They transfer the recording to CD, then beam it up to satellite Galaxy IV.

Q. How come you never play... [a particular album or artist]?
A. If I don't play a particular album or artist it's because I don't like their music, for the most part, or I don't like the production. Sometimes I'm asked this question and I have, in fact, played the album or artist in question. To this I reply, "Listeners have a tendency to function under the impression that if they are not listening to me, that I don't exist. Therefore, if they never hear me play a particular album or artist, they think I've never played it. The reality is, nobody listens all the time, except me." And I often do play the music in question.

Q. What is your address? I have a new CD I'd like to send.
A. 1216 Post Street, Alameda, CA 94501. Keep in mind that I have more CDs than I can actually listen to, so I do not guarantee that I would listen to yours. It has to have something to motivate me like a good cover, players I know and respect, a good choice of tunes, etc.

Q. What kind of equipment do you have at home?
A. I have Marantz CD players and Speaker Lab speakers in my studio. There is a lot of good and affordable equipment out there. Balance your needs with your budget and you can get something good in your price range.

Q. Where can I hear you?
A. With Windows Media Player -- 88 Jazz Place, KUVO.
Or call Carol Martinez -- 773-279-2112.

Q. Will you play music I can fall asleep to?
A. If the people who pay me thought you were going to sleep, I'd be on the unemployment line!
